HEALTH SERVICES & FIRST AIDA doctor and five school nurses are employed in the West Deptford Schools. The school nurse checks the height, weight, blood pressure, vision and hearing of all elementary students every year. The fourth grade students are examined for scoliosis (curvature of the spine). Parents are informed of any defects or deviations observed. If your child has a medical condition that will require exclusion from physical education classes, a doctor’s note is required. A follow-up note is also required when your child is ready to return to physical education classes.
The school attempts to provide an environment in which the children will be safe from accidents. If an accident or sudden illness occurs, first aid will be administered and the child’s parent notified by the school nurse, if necessary. If an injury or illness occurs at home, give the treatment at home. If there is need for treatment of any injury or illness to be continued at school, a doctor’s note is required describing the type of treatment.
