Chief Academic Officer
Dr. Shawnequa Carvalho serves as Chief Academic Officer of the West Deptford Public Schools. As the CAO, Dr. Carvalho provides the guidance and vision of the School District's curriculum and instruction. She is in charge of developing curriculum, implementing instruction, and assessing the efficacy of both. Dr. Carvalho also leads the District's professional development efforts for Pre-K to 12th grade teachers and administrators.
In her 16 years as an educational leader, Dr. Carvalho has served as a supervisor, vice-principal, and classroom teacher, but in her role as Chief Academic Officer, she is truly able to implement the ideals instilled in her by her parents from an early age. They taught her the greatest gift you can give your child is education because education is what your child will use to impact his or her community. Once a person is educated, it is his or her job to influence others on their paths to knowledge.
Dr. Carvalho holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Immaculata University, a master's degree in Reading from St. Joseph's University, a master's degree in Educational Administration from St. Joseph's University, and an doctorate in educational leadership from Rowan University.
Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." This is at the heart of Dr. Carvalho's educational leadership efforts.
