Joseph Owens
Joe and his wife, Kristy, have made West Deptford their home since 2012. They live with their two sons and grandson, a lifelong, happy West Deptford student, currently in West Deptford Middle School. Their daughter lives in Australia.
Joe has always been a journalist. He began working for daily newspapers in 1978 when he was 15. In 2017, he became a member of the Catholic Press and currently works as editor/general manager of the news website and biweekly newspaper, The Dialog, that covers Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the Diocese of Wilmington. A Philadelphia native, he is also a West Deptford Little League baseball coach and member of the Knights of Columbus at Incarnation parish. He is a graduate of De Sales University in Center Valley, Pa. He has coached youth sports for more than 20 years and volunteered on advisory boards at public and private colleges.
Kristy is a part-time LPC Aide at Oakview Elementary. It's her second stint serving in a public elementary school.
Joe is a first year elected official after spending a lifetime scrutinizing elected officials. With the current lack of local news, he won election in part for his emphasis on accountability and transparency. He believes it is incredibly more important nowadays for us to have transparent local government, and nowhere more so than our school district.
Owens was elected as a solo candidate with the "For Our Kids" campaign in 2025 and plans to focus on kids, taxpayer interests, and open government during his term in office.
